About the Department of Civil Engineering and Engineering MechanicsThe Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering was authorized by the Board of Regents and faculty in 1905, and the College of Engineering and Mines was created in 1914. We are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, 111 Market Place, Suite 1050, Baltimore, MD 21202-4012 - telephone: (410) 347-7700. A summary of our accreditation objectives and outcomes can be found on the "Undergraduate" tab under "program assessment" or on the College of Engineering accreditation page. The Civil Engineering building was completed in 1965, and in 2005 we celebrated our centennial with the "100 Years of Building Our Foundation" gala. In 2009 we joined with four other engineering departments to become the School of Sustainable Engineered Systems.
