Certificate of Commendation awarded to UA ASCE Student Chapter
Just recently, the University of Arizona ASCE Student Chapter has been selected by the Committee on Student Activities to receive a Certificate of Commendation for its outstanding activities for this past year. The Student Chapter's accomplishments were praised to reflect the enthusiasm and hard work of its student officers and members, as well as the fine guidance by their faculty advisor, Tribikram Kundu. The Department would like to congratulate all of the members of the UA ASCE Student Chapter and their faculty advisor for receiving this prestigious award. Lifetime Achievement Award for Civil Engineering Professor
Tribikram Kundu, a professor in the UA department of civil engineering and engineering mechanics, recently received a lifetime achievement award from the Society of Optical Engineering. Kundu received his award March 12 at the 19th annual SPIE Smart Structures and Materials & Nondestructive Evaluation and Health Monitoring conference in San Diego. The Society of Optical Engineering used to be called the Society of Photo-Instrumentation Engineering, and is still known as SPIE. Follow the link to read the full article.
Undergraduate Students build Shade Structure for World CareOn March 3rd a team of civil engineering students completed the construction of a large shade structure for the non-profit organization World Care. This project was a portion of the university wide, volunteer collaboration called Cats in the Community. Cats in the Community is an annual activity that unites University of Arizona faculty, staff, and students from many different departments to give aid to the Tucson community. CEEM Graduate receives Marshall Foundation Dissertation FellowshipThe Graduate College is pleased to announce that six graduate students will be receiving the prestigious Marshall Foundation Dissertation-Fellowship for final-phase dissertation support. In addition to a $10,788 stipend beginning in Spring 2012, each student will receive a tuition scholarship for two semesters. The recipient for the Department of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics is Kristen Ward with her Dissertation topic: "Improving the Behavior of Special Concentrically Braced Frames with Steel Castings." The Department would like to congratulate Kristen for her accomplishments and for receiving this prestigious award.
Commencement Honor for UA Engineering UndergradUA Engineering senior Dylan Moriarty was honored at the recent winter commencement with the 2011 Undergraduate Centennial Achievement Award. This award is given annually by Student Affairs at the December commencement to one male and one female graduating senior, and recognizes students who have shown integrity, overcome great challenges to acquire a university education, and who have made contributions to their family and community.
